analyse en détail tous les titres des Beatles dans l’ordre
chronologique de leur enregistrement, de "Love Me Do" en 1963 à "I Me
Mine" en 1970 en prêtant attention aux thèmes développés dans chacune
des chansons ainsi que leur élaboration technique, les interactions
entre les musiciens tout en replaçant chaque chanson dans leurs
contextes sociologique et musical. L’auteur Ian MacDonald a eu accès,
pour préparer son ouvrage, aux masters originaux du groupe. Les morceaux
considérés musicalement comme les plus aventureux ou les plus complexes
dans leur construction, tels que "Eleanor Rigby", "Tomorrow Never
Know", "Strawberry Fields For Ever", "A Day in The Life" etc., font
l’objet d’un décryptage des plus poussés.
